Summary
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has publicly denounced recent false claims suggesting that actor Baba Ijesha has been cleared of his conviction as a rapist. The agency revealed that his name has been recorded in the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has refuted circulating claims that actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been cleared of his conviction for sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.
Olanrewaju James was initially arrested and convicted by a Lagos High Court on July 14, 2022, for the sexual assault of a minor. The conviction stemmed from evidence, including a video recording, related to the abuse of a child survivor.
The trial judge, Hon. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, found him guilty on counts including indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.
He was sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison; however, the judge ruled that the sentences would run concurrently. This means he is only required to serve the longest single term, which is five years.
In response to misinformation that Baba Ijesha had been cleared, the DSVA released a statement on its official X account on November 16, 2025, directly quoting the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro, SAN.
“Mr Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”
The Attorney General further condemned the assertions, referencing the source of the falsehood, which is widely reported to be the actor Yomi Fabiyi, warning that such claims are wholly untrue and capable of alarming the public.
He urged Lagos residents and the wider public to disregard the circulating claims and cautioned Fabiyi, including any platform amplifying the falsehood, to desist immediately.
The DSVA assured its audience by revealing that Mr Olanrewanju’s name has been recorded in the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
