The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched a comprehensive online course aimed at equipping parents and guardians with essential knowledge to protect children from various forms of abuse. This initiative was announced via the official Lagos DSVA X account on January 7.
The Lagos DSVA is a collection of professional service providers and officials that respond as a group and in a timely fashion to the various needs of domestic and sexual violence survivors by providing legal, medical, emergency assistance, counselling, psychological and psycho social support.
This new course focuses on helping parents recognize signs of abuse including physical, sexual, and emotional harm and serves as a preventive tool to protect children from bullying, neglect, and more.
Led by seasoned experts in child safeguarding, the course covers crucial topics such as understanding Child Rights, bullying and peer violence, challenging behavior, positive discipline, and handling disclosures of abuse. Participants will gain insights into the socio-cultural factors that influence child protection in Nigeria.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to take this free course by visiting the website. To date, over 14,000 teachers, guidance counselors, and first responders have successfully completed these courses on safeguarding and child protection. These programs have significantly enhanced their understanding of child safeguarding, reporting pathways, and effective management of abuse disclosures.
