A disturbing incident has gone viral, involving a man assaulting his wife with a cane over a disagreement about food preparation. This abuse was captured on video and shared on X, sparking widespread condemnation from a lot of X users.

The video, lasting over two minutes, was posted by @eddie_wrt, showing the husband repeatedly striking his wife while she attempts to protect herself, and in the background of the video, a person was laughing.

According to one X user who understands the language in the video, @owuraku_Dorsty, translated the conversation, “Apparently she was given money to prepare food for the family but left the kids home hungry to go and roam. On the man’s return from work and noticing she hasn’t done it, asked her to leave but she declined hence beating her. You can see the man now preparing it.”

This incident has sparked outrage online, with many X users calling for Ghana police to take immediate action against the male perpetrator. 

Highlighting the unlawfulness of the action, @GhLawTrends, commented

“Any act of physical abuse or assault done in an existing domestic relationship amounts to domestic violence. Upon conviction shall be made to pay a fine of not more than 500 penalty units or imprisonment of not more than 2 years. Section 3 of the Domestic Violence Act 2007”

Male violence against women is a widespread phenomenon cutting across cultures, with one in three women experiencing intimate partner violence globally.
