At her handover ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim promised to bridge the gender gap, empower women, and fight for women's rights in Nigeria.
Newly reassigned Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has expressed her commitment to the growth of Nigerian women in all its ramifications and to fighting for their rights.
In her handover ceremony at her new office in Abuja on Oct. 28, 2024, she thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for their steadfast dedication to improving the lives of Nigerian women who are historically marginalised.
In a recent press release, Imaan stated that political participation will be given top priority to promote women’s advancement through leadership development, education, and vocational training while calling on all stakeholders to join forces to achieve these ambitious goals, emphasizing collective action, transparency and relentlessness.
According to Imaan, her office will focus on providing women with employment opportunities, entrepreneurial support, and skill development while also asserting that during her term, laws and policies will be applied effectively to protect women, children, people with disabilities, and the vulnerable.
The Minister also mentioned other areas of interest related to male violence against women, stressing the need for safe spaces for women and children in the nation, the expansion of social services, and access to prompt and equitable justice.
“To every Nigerian woman, this is your time. Together, we will break down barriers, lift each other up, ensure your voices are heard, your rights are protected, and your dreams are within reach,” she emphasised.
To guarantee the accomplishment of the current administration’s policy goals, the Minister also reaffirmed her dedication to gender equality and inclusive growth, building on earlier initiatives like the National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy and Action Plan. This is in accordance with the National Gender Policy Revised 2021-2026, which offers strategic direction for mainstreaming gender at all levels.
