President Bola Tinubu has expressed ‘heartbreak’ over the abduction of 25 girls from Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi State, saying in a statement that the girls are in his prayers.
This attack occurred in the early hours of Nov. 17, when gunmen abducted the girls by scaling the school’s fence, exchanging fire with security personnel.
The assailants killed the vice principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, as he tried to defend the students.
In a statement released by the President of Nigeria on Nov. 19, 2025, President Bola Tinubu said he is depressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls.
He added that he has directed security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the girls and return them safely to their families.
The president acknowledged a recent increase in violent extremism in some parts of the country and said he has ordered security agencies to respond with urgency, clarity, and decisive action.
He appealed to communities to cooperate fully with security forces, stressing that sharing information can save lives and protect their children.
“I am fully apprised of the recent uptick in violent extremism in pockets across the country, and I have directed our security agencies to respond with urgency, clarity, and decisive action. Those who threaten the safety of our citizens will face the full weight of the Nigerian state,” he said.
Tinubu assured families of the bereaved and those of the kidnapped girls that the Nigerian state will hold those responsible accountable.
