The Minister of Women Affairs in Nigeria, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced the induction, celebrating Abigail’s remarkable journey from a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at the Centre to her current global leadership position in the UK.
“Her story, from a young corps member at the Centre to a globally celebrated leader, is a powerful reminder that no dream is too distant when rooted in purpose,” Imaan wrote in her statement.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Abigail has emerged as a trailblazing figure in British politics, becoming the first African woman to serve as Lord Mayor of Leeds. The Nigerian Women’s Hall of Fame honours women who have broken barriers and inspired generations through their contributions in various fields. Abigail’s induction adds to the growing list of women who continue to define what it means to lead with vision, courage, and integrity.
Speaking through her official channel, Imaan emphasised that the event aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The initiative seeks to empower women to become architects of national progress and agents of change.
“This moment is more than a personal honour; it’s a national celebration of excellence, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian woman,” Imaan added.
The ceremony reaffirms the government’s commitment to recognising outstanding Nigerian women at home and in the diaspora and providing platforms that amplify their impact.
