Summary

The Abuja Federal High Court has sentenced Prof. Cyril Ndifon, a suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, to five years' imprisonment for sexually harassing his female students.

The suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for sexually harassing his female students. This judgment took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Abuja Federal High Court.

During his tenure as the Faculty of Law Dean, Cyril harassed his female students by demanding pornographic photos from them, using his position to gain undue advantage over them. A particular female diploma student whose identity was replaced with the pseudonym ‘TJK’, reported that he told her to send pornographic, indecent and obscene photographs of herself through WhatsApp chats. He even demanded that she give him “a blow job” as an exchange for gaining admission into the institution to study law.

In 2023, female students of the Faculty of Law, UNICAL, called out their Dean, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, for sexual harassment and sex favours. They staged peaceful protests to demand his immediate removal. Despite the university’s panel’s attempt to investigate the alleged misconduct, Cyril refused to present himself three consecutive times.

In the judgment, Justice James Omotosho found him guilty on two out of four counts. He sentenced the sexual offender to two years in prison on one of the counts and handed him a five-year jail term on another count without an option of fine. Notably, the judge criticised Cyril’s actions as an abuse of office, the trait of a sexual predator who is a disgrace to the community of leaders.

Justice Omotosho said, “It was with dismay that I read through this case that a Dean of Law can turn himself into a sexual predator and his actions are a disgrace to the community of learned persons.”
