Summary
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order mandating the transfer of transgender inmates to prisons corresponding to their corresponding sex class. The directive has been welcomed by women’s rights activists, emphasising the need for single sex-spaces.
Following the US official recognition of only two sexes, US President Donald Trump has ordered that all transgender male prisoners be housed in their corresponding sex-based prison. The directive, titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” is part of the initiative to safeguard women’s dignity and right to single-sex-based spaces.
According to SpiritualWord, the order establishes that the federal government will officially recognise only two sexes—male and female—based strictly on an individual’s sex assigned at birth.
As a result, transgender males in federal custody, a population numbering over 1,500, will now be housed in facilities that align with their birth sex. This move has reversed previous policies that allowed men to be housed in women’s prisons.
This a welcome development by women’s rights advocates who have since advocated for policies to safeguard women from male violence in prisons and to organise society based on the biological truth of sex rather than the self-identification ideology of gender identity.
