Kynath Terry Jr, the 19-year-old husband of Precious Johnson, shot and killed her shortly after she gave birth to their first child. This incident happened on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, Alabama, United States.

According to the authorities, Terry shot his 24-year-old wife multiple times before turning the weapon on himself at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Terry and Johnson were the only people injured, and it remains unclear whether the newborn was in the room at the time.

According to Terry’s mother, the couple had been experiencing marital issues before Johnson’s delivery, but she never believed that her son would become violent. She also said Terry had completed Army National Guard training before marrying Johnson. She added that Johnson did not want members of her husband’s family to be present at the hospital for the delivery, but it is not known whether they were there when the incident happened. 

This tragedy reflects the broader gender-based killing of women by their intimate partners, otherwise termed as femicide.
