A Nigerian artisan has garnered global attention with a new world record in the art of wig making. On 27 September 2025, professional wig maker Helen Williams set the Guinness World Record for the tallest wig with a remarkable creation that stands 15.37 metres (50.42 feet) tall.

The feat was officially recognised by Guinness World Records, making her the first person to achieve this extraordinary height with a wig.

This is not the first time Helen has broken a record. She is already a celebrated record breaker in the world of hair artistry, holding previous Guinness World Records for the longest handmade wig, which measured an astonishing 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in), and for the widest wig, spanning 3.65 metres (11 ft 11 in).

Commenting on her achievement, Helen said her newest accomplishment was her greatest challenge yet, due largely to the engineering and structural hurdles involved in making the wig stable at such an unprecedented height.

She also stated that setting a record is like climbing a mountain, noting that the process is full of challenges, but that the view from the top makes the effort worthwhile. She believes her work shows there are no limits in life, only new heights to reach.

Her work has not only cemented her as a standout creative figure in Nigeria’s booming artisan scene but also highlighted the ingenuity and global competitiveness of Nigerian makers in unconventional fields.

Helen is not the only Nigerian woman to achieve a Guinness World Record, as other women have also made global headlines for record-breaking feats. Reality TV star and entrepreneur Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, earned a Guinness World Record for completing the most cosmetic makeovers within eight hours and within 24 hours.

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci holds a Guinness World Record for her marathon cooking feat, which brought international attention to Nigerian cuisine and women’s excellence in the culinary industry.
