The Ogun State Police have arrested Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, on allegations that he raped his daughter repeatedly over several years, impregnated her five times, and procured abortions for each pregnancy on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Ifo Local Government Area,.
According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, the survivor, identified only as ‘F’, aged 21, reported the abuse at the Ifo Division on March 26, 2026. She stated that her father Oluwadamilare began sexually abusing her in 2019 after taking her from a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State, where he had placed her following the death of her mother, to Ijebu Ode under the pretence of guardianship.
She stated that during the years of abuse, she became pregnant five times and that Oluwadamilare procured an abortion for each pregnancy. On February 1, 2026, she stated that she escaped from his residence due to the excessive harassment and relocated to a church in Pakoto Mountain before reporting the matter to the police.
Babaseyi confirmed that operatives of the Ifo Division arrested Oluwadamilare following a tip-off.
“The suspect is now in police custody, and preliminary investigations are ongoing. The case has been transferred to the Gender Desk for thorough investigation and prosecution,” he stated.
The case reflects the reality that girls and young women in Nigeria face the highest risk of sexual abuse within their own homes, at the hands of male relatives including fathers. Naija Feminists Media has consistently reported on such cases, including several incidents of paedophilia and sexual assault here and here.
