Ms Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has suspended commanding officers along the Lagos-Seme border corridor and ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of extortion by personnel of the service.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, April 10, 2026, and signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, Ms Kemi unequivocally condemns the reports of extortion by personnel.
“Such conduct is unacceptable and stands in direct violation of the core values, ethics, and operational standards of the Service.”
The action followed viral online reports documenting the misconduct, according to a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, April 10, 2026, and signed by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi.
According to the statement, the investigation is directed at identifying all officers involved to ensure disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect.
Comptroller-General, who assumed office in January 2024, had previously stated that her tenure would be marked by discipline and public accountability.
