A disturbing video has surfaced on X showing a masquerade brutally assaulting a woman during the Urheovware Cultural Festival in Edjeba community, Warri, Delta State. This video was shared by SaharaReporters on April 20, 2026. This assault reportedly occurred during the grand finale of the Urheovware Cultural Festival in Edjeba.

In the footage of the video, the woman was seen lying on the ground while being beaten with a cane by a masquerade dressed in a red-and-yellow costume. She was screaming in pain, barefoot, calling for help, and attempting to protect herself from the attacks before crawling into the gutter behind her. The clip later showed her sitting on the edge of the drainage, crying out in pain while the masquerade walked away.

Recall that on March 19, 2026, Naija Feminists Media reported news about the Ozoro festival, where the community men gangraped, groped, and assaulted women and girls on the streets and in their homes. This was done during the Uruamudhu Aluejo Festival, a seven-day cultural event in the community. The chief organiser of the event, Chief Omorede Sunday, and 15 other suspects were arrested.

Again, this same misogynistic cultural festival is being repeated in the same city where it was earlier, raising concerns and questions about the enforcement of laws, barbaric cultural festivals, and the safety of Nigerian women.

Reacting to the video, Nigerians have taken to social media, expressing anger, criticism, and shock.

“This is totally wrong oo, why beating an innocent woman because of tradition?” @abbeyweb121 commented.

“This is why I don’t like festivals. Which one is this now? I go beat hell comot from him body. Which one is women shouldn’t come outside? Very useless culture and tradition, I might add. No be say person dey support women oh but wtf.” Another user, @visionofstream, said.

“See the trash Nigerians call culture, other countries’ cultures are involved, displaying the beauty of their traditions, music, beliefs and other attire. In Nigeria, it’s something else, shame to say this people, it’s time to banish this nonsense,” @Urukvitor said.

“These people with their ugly and unholy cultural festival again, last few days it was a rapping cultural festival and now a masquerade brutally assaulting a woman in the name of a culture. These are the so-called people of civilization as they claimed,” @MuhdBalaMuhd1.
