Nnamdi Lazarus, a 51-year-old man, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for alleged conspiracy and child trafficking after six abducted children were found in his custody.
Nnamdi, who is from Mbano in Imo State and currently resides in Uratta, Aba, was arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Aba North, following what the police described as credible and actionable intelligence.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect was found harbouring and keeping six children during the operation.
The children, who are between three and seven years old, were identified by the police as Nnenna Ogbuogu, Nwanne Ogbuogu, Amanda Iheke Emmanuella, Destiny Iheke Emmanuel, Anointing Iheke Emmanuel and Ihechi Obasi.
The police said the six children have been safely reunited with their families.
The Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the children and apprehend other suspected members of the alleged child trafficking syndicate.
Nnamdi will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations, according to the police.
The Abia State Police Command said it remains committed to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to provide information that could help prevent crime and protect vulnerable people.
