Olukanyinsola Odebode Sentenced to 12 Years’ Imprisonment for Rape in UK

A 30-year-old Nigerian man, Olukanyinsola Odebode, has been sentenced to a 12-year extended sentence in Wales after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while on bail. Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration following a trial. The offences occurred between June 2024 and September 2025, involving two women in the Gwent and Dyfed-Powys Police areas.

According to the court proceedings reported by Wales Online, Odebode first raped and sexually assaulted a woman in the Gwent Police area. He was arrested and released on bail, but later sexually assaulted another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area. Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode had “humiliated and degraded his victims” and described him as a danger to women. The court also heard that some of the sexual activity had been recorded.

A Probation Service assessment found that Odebode showed little insight into his offending and had completely rejected the jury’s findings. The report concluded that he posed a high risk of serious harm, linked to what it described as “attitudes of entitlement”.

The impact on the two women was also presented to the court through victim impact statements. One of the women described Odebode as “very predatory,” while Judge Huw Rees said his behaviour had a “profound” effect on his victims.

These sentences also brought attention to previous reports about Odebode’s behaviour. The court heard that seven other women had raised concerns about his sexual behaviour with police since 2019. The reports included allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking, but none resulted in convictions, and they were not among the offences for which Odebode was sentenced.

Judge Rees concluded that an extended sentence was necessary because of the risk Odebode posed to the public. He was sentenced to nine years in custody followed by three years on licence, making a total extended sentence of 12 years. Odebode must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before he can apply for release. Any decision on whether he is safe to be released will be made by the Parole Board. He will also remain on the sex offender’s register for life.

The sentencing took place on Friday, August 21, at Swansea Crown Court. Public court records confirm Odebode’s appearances before Judge Huw Rees at the court in July and August 2026.
