About Us

We shall dance on the grave of patriarchy and drink the bitter tears of misogynistic men.

Our Journey

Naija Feminists is a platform founded in 2021, mainly based on social media. In 2024, it expanded to become an organised body representing the interest of women’s liberation through mass media in a way uninfluenced by profitability and propaganda.

Our Vision

Naija Feminists Media envision a world of women’s liberation and the acknowledgement of black women’s struggle to achieve the goal.

Our Mission

Naija Feminists Media (NFM) is a revolutionary force in Nigeria’s media landscape, dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and challenging the status quo. Our mission is to make feminism mainstream, promoting gender equality and inclusivity through diverse knowledge products. We produce investigative stories that expose the truth, feminist films that inspire, and women-centered vodcasts that spark conversations. Our content is designed to demystify harmful gender stereotypes, amplify Black feminist perspectives, and shape a more equitable society. We aim to create a culture shift in Nigeria, where feminism is no longer marginalised but celebrated. Our platform empowers women to share their stories, assert their rights, and demand change.

Our Strategies

Female-Centered Media Content
We publish women-related news, investigative stories, and films, including movies and documentaries, vodcasts, and art to increase women’s visibility in the media and offer perspectives on issues that centre on women.
Women’s Rights Advocacy
We do this by organising and covering women-related protests and creating street art content that promotes male respect for women.
Community Engagement
We partner with people in the local community to promote women’s rights in their area, train local newsrooms to report on women-related stories, engage with organisations to make policies that favour women in their companies, and provide support for vulnerable women.
High-Level Research
We conduct industry-related high-level research about women to ensure the free flow of accurate information about us.
In-Depth Analysis
We conduct an in-depth analysis of women-related experiences towards providing accurate data to change the status quo
Stakeholder Gathering
Through our annual conference, we engage with media owners, journalists, politicians, and women’s rights advocates to discuss and promote the agenda of female liberation in Nigeria
Policy Formulation and Implementation
To create impact, we formulate policies instrumental to women’s liberation and lobby for its implementation at the national level

What are the problems we are solving?

There has been a lot of disinformation about feminism and that it is unnecessary in Nigeria. An instance of such disinformation is this:

“Truth be told, the ideologies of feminism practiced in Nigeria are a corrupt and adulterated version of what worldwide feminism, which originated in the West, is all about. Most Nigerian feminists are just a bitter and resentful bunch who, due to some of their bad experiences, have grievances against the male gender, and that is what catalyses their so-called feminist standpoint.

“There is nothing harmful about a woman ceremonially kneeling to serve her husband a drink,” said Stanley Alieke in the article ‘Nigeria’s Adulterated Version of Feminism’ published on May 28, 2022.

Through feminist news, Naija Feminists Media (NFM) exposes and analyses the systemic patriarchal and misogynistic practices in Nigeria and why gender advocacy is fundamental in the country.

There has also been an underrepresentation of black feminists’ voices in global gender issues; hence, feminism is constantly associated with the West. Therefore, Naija Feminists produces media content that is strictly from African women’s perspectives.

Consequently, Naija Feminists is solving the problem of disinformation as it relates to gender inequality and addressing the underrepresentation of black women’s voices in global gender issues.

Why Media?

Women are discriminated against religiously, politically, culturally and socially in Nigeria. In elective and appointive political positions, women’s participation is less than 7% nationally, far 59 below 22.5% of the global average and 23.4% of the regional average (Aina-Pelemo, 2021). Also, some cultures still practice female genital mutilation (FGM) and indulge in barbaric cultures where girls are born for the sole purpose of using them to repay debt. Yet, the media has been complicit in propagating misogynistic and patriarchal narratives that have subjugated women for many years and demonised the gender equality movement.

“It sickens to see that many women today just engage in this mass of inexplicable oddity, and they tag it feminism. Our Nigerian ladies want to tailor their feminism on the premise of ‘I can’t be a slave to any man. After you are done eating, wash your plate, and I will wash mine; if you cannot wash my pants, I cannot wash your boxer. If you are not ready to clean up for your baby, then let’s not bother giving birth. How do these absurdities fit into the philosophical foundation of feminism?” One of Nigeria’s most prominent media platforms, The Cable, published on their platform on August 31, 2017; The story written by Babajide Adeokin is titled “Pro-women to anti-men movement: Nigerian wave of feminism”

Several researches have also revealed how media are created by men for the consumption of men. However, with the growth of incel culture, it is time the media steps up and undo it. Naija Feminists, therefore, leverages technological and journalistic tools to expose misogyny, improve African feminists’ representation, and empower women.
