Summary
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been appointed Nigeria’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs.
Seasoned politician, diplomat, lawyer, and business mogul Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
This appointment occurs amidst the reshuffling of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet, which has seen the re-assignment of ten ministers to new ministerial portfolios, the discharge of five ministers, and the nomination of seven new ministers to be approved by the Senate. Bianca is among the ministers appointed alongside Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Minister of Women’s Affairs.
This decision, announced on October 23, 2024, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, is said to be part of the Presidency’s plans to “reinvigorate the administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant to his (President Bola Tinubu’s) commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.”
Bianca previously served as a Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs under President Goodluck Jonathan. With a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, she has also held ambassadorial roles in Ghana and Spain. Despite having a degree in Law, she is also an international beauty pageant holder (Miss Martini 1987) and the most beautiful girl in Nigeria in 1988.
In ending this announcement, the President charged the newly appointed ministers and their reassigned colleagues to see their appointment as a call to serve the nation. He added that all appointees must understand the administration’s eagerness and determination to set Nigeria on the path to irreversible growth and invest the best of their abilities in actualising the government’s priorities.
