Nigerian renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has revealed that she recently welcomed twin boys, a joyous occasion that comes after years of personal loss and her creative struggles.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the award-winning author of Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah shared her experience of becoming a mother at this stage in her life. “I had them late. I never thought I would have twins,” she said, expressing both surprise and deep love for her 10-month-old boys.

The news of Adichie’s growing family comes after a difficult period marked by the deaths of both her parents. Her father passed away unexpectedly in 2020, followed by the loss of her mother less than a year later. These tragedies, she admitted, left her struggling with grief and an extended period of writer’s block.

Despite these hardships, Adichie has completed her new novel, Dream Count, set for release on March 4 by Fourth Estate. The book explores themes of immigration, late motherhood, and self-awareness, subjects deeply influenced by her personal journey.

Adichie also used the interview to reiterate her strong stance against cancel culture. “Cancel culture is bad. We should stop it. End of story,” she stated bluntly, arguing that fear of backlash has created an environment where young people “rob themselves of the opportunity to think and to learn and to grow.”
