Summary

Twenty-three-year-old Irinsanmi Imisioluwa Eunice spent 168 hours and over 20,000 stitches to crochet a custom jacket for the Lagos State Governor. Appreciating the gesture,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu encouraged more creativity in youth.

In a heartwarming gesture, 23-year-old Irinsanmi Imisioluwa Eunice presented the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with a custom, handmade crochet jacket. The jacket, which took her 168 hours and over 20,000 stitches, was crafted using six yarn colours and a single crochet hook.

Eunice’s gift impressed the governor, Sanwo-Olu, who shared her inspiring story with the public.

“Today, I received a thoughtful, handmade, custom crocheted jacket from 23-year-old Irinsanmi Imisioluwa Eunice,” the governor said. “It took her 168 hours, over 20,000 stitches, and six yarn colours using just one crochet hook to bring it to life. But it’s her story that truly stayed with me.”

The young creative discovered crocheting in primary school and dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, her path changed course, and she went on to study Home Economics. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Eunice fully embraced her passion for crafting, honing the skills that would eventually lead her to this unforgettable moment.

Encouraging other young talents in the state, the governor added, “I want every young creative in Lagos to know that your work matters. Your hands, your skills, your ideas, and your dreams are all part of what makes this state thrive.”

“Thank you, Eunice,” he concluded. “I appreciate this gift and’ll wear it with pride.”
