Summary

Damilola Onosowobo, a respected voice on social issues, has cautioned young women against idolising the lavish wedding of influencer Priscillia Ojo to a much older partner she met less than a year ago. While wishing the couple well, Damilola urged women to celebrate without losing sight of the complexities behind such relationships.

Popular feminist and co-founder of Shop Bawsty, Damilola Onosowobo, has advised young women not to romanticise or model their choices after the glamorous marriages. The advice followed the public awe that followed the union of 24-year-old influencer Priscilla Ojo to 35-year-old Juma Jux, whom she met less than a year before.

The wedding, which happened on April 18 and 19, drew widespread attention across social media due to its opulence and celebrity guest list, sparking conversations about age, commitment, and relocation in relationships. Dami, writing on X (formerly Twitter) on April 4, shared her thoughts in a series of candid posts.

“I don’t like seeing a 24-year-old woman marrying a 34-year-old man she met less than a year ago, whose best mate is Diamond,” she wrote. “Relocating to a whole new country at 24 with a man you’ve known for a year, who is a decade older than you, is risky for most young women.”

Dami further went on to clarify that her comments were not meant to cast doubt on the couple’s relationship or future.

“Their case might be different, and he may be a good human and good partner — she’s also a celebrity,” she said. “So this is not me saying that their union will be bad or anything like that.”

Rather, she directed her message toward young women who may view marriage as aspirational.

“Don’t use them as a premise, don’t idealise them,” she emphasised. “Glamour is fun, and huge weddings are entertaining, so I wish them well. Enjoy the festivities and celebrations, but don’t get carried away.”

The message resonated with many online, sparking further debate around societal expectations, relationship standards, and the pressures of performing perfection on social media.
