Depriving her of the right to life, Emmanuel Gambo, a 22-year-old undergraduate student of the Material and Metallurgical Engineering department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), murdered Deborah Sam-Praise on the early hours of June 15, 2025, at the Obukpa hotel, Nsukka, Enugu state.
Emmanuel strangled Deborah to death following a dispute when the latter demanded an additional N15,000 after they both had a second round of intercourse. To cover his murderous act, Emmanuel wrapped Deborah’s body in the hotel’s towel and curtains and hid it under the bed. The foul smell of the decomposed body prompts the hotel staff to search the room, leading to the discovery of Deborah’s dead body.
Upon searching for Emmanuel’s details, the hotel discovered that he provided a fake name and unreachable phone number. However, after a thorough investigation by the Enugu police, Emmanuel was arrested at his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. He confessed to the crime and provided Deborah’s iPhone, while her earbuds and tablet were found outside the window of the room where Emmanuel threw them.
