Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved another major career milestone as her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, surpassed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office. This feat was announced by FilmOne Entertainment on its X handle on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Behind The Scene is a Nigerian movie that follows the life of Aderonke Faniran, a highly successful real estate entrepreneur. It explores the theme of the ‘black tax,’ the pressures of fame, success, and the cultural expectations of financially supporting an ever-growing circle of family and friends. The movie is co-directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye.
The movie features Scarlet Gomez as the lead role and other supporting cast such as Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Destiny Etiko, Mr Macaroni, Ibrahim Chatta, Uche Montana, and others.
According to FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes made over N200 million within 12 days of its release. It has made an unprecedented history by becoming the fastest film in West Africa to surpass the ₦1 billion benchmark and recorded the highest single-day box office gross ever on Boxing Day, earning ₦129.5 million. The company further announced that Behind The Scenes emerged as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025, cementing its status as one of the most commercially successful films in Nigeria’s cinema history.
Currently, the Nollywood star holds four of the top five spots for the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time:
- Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024): ₦1.88 billion.
- A Tribe Called Judah (2023): ₦1.4 billion (The first Nollywood film to ever hit ₦1 billion).
- Behind The Scenes (2025): ₦1.1 billion (Crossed the milestone in December 2025).
- Battle on Buka Street (2022): ₦668 million.
- Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020): ₦636 million.
With her latest movie buster, the Nollywood queen has become the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year.
