Governance advocate and feminist Ms Feyi has condemned Honourable Minister of Education Dr Morufu Olatunji Alausa for prioritising a university partnership in London while secondary school students in Oyo State remain without basic safety infrastructure at their school gate.
On March 18, 2026, Minister Olatunji announced a major partnership with Coventry University to bring fully accredited UK degrees to Nigeria at a lower cost, with a proposed campus at Alaro City, Lagos, offering Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.
This announcement came after students of Baptist Secondary Grammar School, Agre, Oyo State, appealed to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, and the government responded the next day, on March 17, 2026, by installing speed breakers, pedestrian crossings, and official school warning signs at their school gate. The students lamented that the school is directly located on a busy road subjected to high-speed traffic, putting staff and pupils at risk daily.
In a post on her X page on March 19, 2026, @Miz_Fey expressed fury at the Minister’s priorities, describing it as unacceptable that secondary school students were still begging for something as basic as speed breakers while the Minister travelled to the UK to broker a university deal.
“I’m actually back to this tweet cause I’m furious. These are secondary school kids begging you to install something as basic as speed breakers in front of their school entrance for their safety.” She wrote. “Yet you travelled all the way to the UK to partner with a university to bring degrees to Nigeria”
As of the time of writing, the Nigerian government has yet to respond to Ms Feyi’s critique or to the students’ appeal.
