Notably, Jollof rice is a pride food in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria and Ghana. It is often paired with meat or seafood and is a must-served food at most Nigerian parties. Speaking at the event, Chef Hilda said, “We (Nigerians) are the giants of Africa, and jollof rice is a food that everybody knows Africans for. It would make sense if we had the biggest pot of jollof rice; it would be nice for the country.”
Despite the minor issue of the pot breaking when they attempted to lift it off the fire cradle, the cooking was a success. Chef Hilda’s largest pot of jollof rice fed over tens of thousands of people. Her feat showcases her culinary skills, expertise, and passion for Nigerian cruise.
While many Nigerians praised her resilience, skills, and feat, some Nigerians criticised her. However, Nollywood actress Jumoke Odetola reacted to negative criticism, saying that they should ask themselves “why they are triggered by the success of a woman who is trying to make a mark in her field.”
Currently, evidence of the largest pot of jollof rice has been submitted to the Guinness World Records for review.
