Senator Ireti Kingibe, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has demanded fairness in the Nigerian Senate.

In a recent clip circulating on social media as of Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2025,  Senator Ireti was seen speaking in a session at the National House of Assembly in Abuja. She was asked to apologise to her fellow colleagues for walking out on them, which she initially hesitated to do. She then followed up by saying that she expected fairness to be used in handling matters at the Senate.

“I apologise to my colleagues who may have felt offended by me walking out. However, I expect fairness in the Senate for everybody. Concessions are given to other people, I expect them to be given to me also when it is needed,” she said.

This is happening in the midst of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. Senator Ireti was one of the 18 Senators who signed an agreement to suspend Senator Natasha, leading to social media users’ making comments on hypocrisy.

“They say that the first lash of misogyny Cain will be for the misogyny enablers. The most consistent thing about Misogyny is the fact that it doesn’t discriminate 🤭,” X user goddess_ife stated.

“The only thing that makes me sad about this video is just how much the middle finger is repeatedly being flipped at Nigerian women. Hence why, as a group, we cannot continue to think that rain only falls on one roof. It will always touch all of us,” Ebele quote-tweeted.

“Out of curiosity, does Akpabio also infantilise male senators or is this behaviour (urge to humble others) only reserved for the female senators? Truly curious,” Rolake also commented.
