Temi Otedola, a Nigerian actress, has shared insights into her career, values, and her father Femi Otedola’s legacy in a new interview with BBC News Pidgin on October 1, 2025.
She stated the importance of owning one’s narrative, explaining that choosing when and how to share milestones has given her greater control over her journey in the public eye.
“I’ve always been someone to share, whether it’s a work project or personal news, I share it in my own time.”
In her father’s recently published book, she noted that while her father never completed formal schooling, his life and experience became his greatest education, shaping him into one of Nigeria’s most prominent entrepreneurs.
“My dad has a wealth of wisdom, and I’ve been very fortunate as his daughter that I’ve been able to glean and learn all of this information growing up with him.”
She also recalled his decision not to allow his children to work directly in the family business.
”He was not that father who was like, “Okay, you know, this is the family business. You’re going to take after me and you’re going to copy and paste my life”. He actually allowed us to come out of his shadow in many different ways.”
Temi acknowledged her privilege, stressing that being the daughter of Femi Otedola gave her an undeniable head start in life.
“I think it’s very important for people who are privileged, and people, especially people who are born into privilege, to acknowledge that leg up they’ve gotten in life.”
