Summary
With three weeks to the 2024 US Presidential Elections, Kamala Harris is standing tall in her campaign to win the election. Kamala is the current Vice President to Joe Biden, the President of the USA. She is running alongside Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, as her vice. Kamala’s opposition is the Republican Party’s candidate, Donald Trump, with JD Vance running as his vice.
The Vice President of the United States of America (USA), Kamala Devi Harris, has been a storm in the political scene since she became the official presidential candidate of the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden stepped out of the race.
Born to Afro-Jamaican and Tamil-Indian parents, the 59-year-old was the first woman, first Black American, and first Asian American to assume the offices of the Vice President, Attorney General in California, and District Attorney in San Francisco, making her the highest-ranking female official in the history of the United States.
Not new to the Presidential race, she withdrew her ambition back in 2019, after which she became President Biden’s running mate—an election that they won and in which she’s currently serving.
Set to run for the position of the 47th President of the United States, Kamala, in August 2023, announced Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, as her running mate for the 2024 Presidential Elections. She will run against the Republican Party’s candidates, Donald Trump and JD Vance.
With endorsements from President Biden and the Obamas, Kamala promises to fight for a new way forward that protects citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms, strengthens their democracy, and ensures that every citizen has the opportunity to make something of themselves.
On a website specially created for her political campaign, several manifestoes that she intends to achieve in power are highlighted, and they include:
- Building an opportunity economy and lower costs for families
- Safeguarding fundamental freedoms of citizens
- Ensuring safety and justice for all
- Keeping America safe, secure and prosperous
Kamala Harris is offering solutions that include cutting taxes for middle-class families, ensuring that no one is above the law, standing up to dictators, providing loans for Black entrepreneurs and bringing back pro-abortion laws. Her propositions are in contrast with Trump’s manifestos, which include maintaining taxes and banning abortion.
“I trust women to know what is in their best interests for their reproductive health. Not a bunch of folks at a state capitol telling them what to do,” Kamala shared on X the reasoning behind her agenda to decriminalise abortion.
With elections set to take place on November 5, 2024, Kamala is wrapping up her campaigns by urging citizens to make the right choice and vote for her.
“Today marks three weeks until Election Day. Let’s roll up our sleeves and make every moment count. It’s going to take a lot of hard work. Together, we can win this: go.kamalaharris.com.”
As of 2024, only 15 countries have been led by women; however, the United States is not among them, despite being ranked as one of the most powerful nations in the world.
Diverse individuals have expressed that Kamala Harris’s winning the election will be a win for women, bringing a much-needed cultural shift regarding women in leadership positions.
“I am a Ugandan; I see a lot of potential in Kamala and praying that she wins this race. Her winning this race will be a win for every person; she will be the face of all women. Every human with a woman in their life will be happy. @KamalaHarris GO WIN,” a Twitter user said.
