Katsina State, in collaboration with the World Bank, is set to launch the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP), a major initiative to empower women across the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs in Kaduna State, Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua, has announced that Katsina State is preparing to launch the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) with support from the World Bank. This will mark a significant step for women’s empowerment in the region.
In a roundtable discussion held on November 11, 2024, Hadiza, alongside His Excellency Mallam Umar Dikko Radda, PhD, CON, met with key World Bank representatives, including Mr. Tamir Samad, Operations Manager, and Mr. Micheal Ilesanmi, Team Task Leader (TTL), to finalise project details.
During the meeting, attendees reviewed the Project Appraisal Document (PAD), gaining an in-depth understanding of the initiative, which aims to improve women’s economic and social standing in Katsina State. The project will begin with a learning visit to Ogun State, where team members will observe successful strategies and best practices before launching activities locally.
Following the visit, the project’s implementation will commence in three local government areas (LGAs), creating Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) as a core component. These groups will provide a foundation for building community support networks, enhancing women’s access to resources, and promoting their role in sustainable development.
Expressing gratitude to the World Bank, Governor Radda highlighted the critical importance of empowering women to create a sustainable future for Katsina.
“Empowering women is not only essential for individual families but is a crucial investment in the future of our communities,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to gender-focused initiatives under the Ministry of Women Affairs in Katsina.
He also stated that the project is in line with his mandate, “Build Your Future. ” The project represents a significant collaboration aimed at addressing gender-based challenges and fostering long-term progress within the state.
