A disturbing video has gone viral on social media, showing a landlord threatening to kill his tenant, who is a 300-level University of Lagos student. The video, which bears the caption, “My landlord is threatening my life because,” captures an exchange where the man threatens to kill her after she repeatedly refused his advances.
In the video, another man is seen restraining the older man as he yells at the lady, “You are going to die.”
The confrontation escalated further when the man threatened to imprison her, stating he would pay N500,000 bribe to ensure no repercussions.
The video has sparked strong reactions online. Social media user @chidera_ag commented on the prevalence of such male responses to rejection, tweeting,
“For those of you who keep yelling at women for not outright rejecting men, this is the reason. The fact that he was bold enough to threaten her life and say N500k will settle everything means that this isn’t his first rodeo.”
Another user, @_klassisch, shared she had a similar disturbing experience:
“Same thing I suffered with my previous landlord; I had to move out. I refused to sleep with him, and he threatened to run me over and send boys over to deal with me, and nothing would happen. That he knows the DPO in Bariga. And his wife is aware but covering up for him.”
Following the outrage, the DSVA has been investigating the matter for legal intervention.
