In a ceremony that took place on Apr. 13, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, received the prestigious Award for Excellence in Nation Building at the 17th Nigeria Festival of Awards.
Organisers of the annual event conferred the honour on Professor Adeyeye in recognition of her exceptional contributions to strengthening NAFDAC’s regulatory systems and leading the agency’s relentless fight against substandard medicines, unwholesome foods, and other unsafe regulated products.
Under Professor Adeyeye’s leadership, NAFDAC has recorded major milestones in public health safety, improved compliance among manufacturers, and tightened enforcement against counterfeit and substandard goods in Nigeria’s markets.
Ms Eva Edwards, director of food safety and applied nutrition at NAFDAC, accepted the award on her behalf and described the honour as “a testament to Professor Adeyeye’s vision, integrity, and unwavering dedication to protecting the health of Nigerians.”
“Professor Adeyeye has worked tirelessly to ensure that regulatory reforms are driven by science, transparency, and accountability,” Ms Edwards said. “This award is a recognition of her commitment to safeguarding lives and strengthening trust in our health systems.”
Since she was appointed Director-General, Professor Adeyeye has prioritised capacity-building, digital transformation, and global best practices in drug and food regulation—earning accolades both locally and internationally.
