Summary

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, the former Minister of Education and Policy advocate, has called on Governor Soludo to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of the brutal assault and stripping of Jennifer Elobor, the corp member who was brutally assaulted and stripped naked. She blames the lack of precedent for conviction for such a crime on the rampant violence against women across Nigeria.

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, the former Minister of Education and public policy advocate, has called on the Anambra State governor, Soludo, to take prompt action against the male perpetrators of the Jennifer Elobor case. She demands an immediate investigation and punishment of the perpetrators.

Recalled that Jennifer Elobor, a crop member in Anambra state, was brutally assaulted, berated, and stripped naked on July 23, 2025. The armed members of the Aguntel vigilante group accused Jennifer and her colleagues of being yahoo people. Despite the evidence of their NYSC identity cards and uniform, they were still assaulted.

Reacting to the rampant widespread violence against women across Nigeria, Dr. Oby stressed that thousands of women have been maimed or killed by perpetrators who believed there would never be consequences for their actions. She blamed the persistence of this crime on the lack of precedent for conviction that exists today.

Describing Jennifer’s perpetrators as ‘a cowardly troop of men,’ Dr Oby urged Governor Soludo to take a lead role in curbing gender-based violence across the state. She stressed that the perpetrators should be used as examples for appropriate punishment.
