Oyo State Police Arrests 18-Year-Old Basit Tijani for Raping Minor

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man, Basit Tijani, for luring a 17-year-old girl into his room and raping her in Ilero.

According to a press release signed by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka on Friday, February 27, 2026, operatives of the Ilero Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded after the rape was reported, rescued the victim, and evacuated her to a medical facility where she received medical examination and psychological support.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Basit lured the victim into his room and raped her. Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately mobilised to the scene, secured the area, and rescued the victim. Tijani was subsequently apprehended and has since confessed to the rape while cooperating with ongoing investigations.

Commissioner of Police CP Femi Haruna has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Gender Desk for a comprehensive investigation. “Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect should be charged in court accordingly,” he stated.

The Command reaffirmed its position on sexual violence in the press release. “The Command reiterates its zero-tolerance stance towards sexual and gender-based violence and assures members of the public that perpetrators of such heinous acts will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” DSP Ayanlade Olayinka stated.
