Rinu Oduola, a Nigerian human rights advocate, has criticised the widespread praise received by Governor Adeleke, the governor of Osun state, who is trending for transforming the life of a puff-puff seller from grass to grace. She stated that Nigerians ought to celebrate systemic reforms, not individual aid.
On August 29 2025, during a rally for Osun workers, Governor Adeleke noticed a young, dancing woman in the crowd with a bowl of puff-puff.
He called her over and purchased the snacks from her for double their value at the rate of 50,000 naira. Upon learning that the seller was a university graduate with an NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) and was skilled at cooking, he offered her a more permanent and secure position as a government chef.
Reacting to Governor Adeleke’s actions, Rinu stated that only in Nigeria will a governor help a “fufu seller” and start trending like he ended poverty.
“Meanwhile, the system remains broken. There’s something deeply wrong with us,” she said.
