Summary

RoundCheck calls for applications from those interested in learning to fact-check. Application closes on Feb 28, 2025.

Since March 2022, the Roundcheck Volunteer Network has emerged as a significant force in fighting against false information in Africa. The network was born out of the urgent need to combat the growing spread of misinformation across digital platforms, particularly in a region where youths comprise most internet users.

In line with this vision, Roundcheck is now calling for applications for the 4th cohort of its Volunteer Network, an opportunity to join a transformative movement against the epidemic of misinformation and disinformation.

About the Roundcheck Volunteer Network

The RoundCheck Volunteer Network was founded with a single mission: “To empower young people with the knowledge, tools, and skills required to verify information and debunk misinformation.” Since 2022, RoundCheck has been training and mentoring volunteers twice a year, in March and August.

Each cohort participates in an intensive three-month program, during which volunteers receive:

  • Mentorship from experienced fact-checkers and media professionals.
  • Comprehensive Training on fact-checking methodologies and tools.
  • Opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects and gain hands-on experience.
  • Networking with a growing community of like-minded individuals committed to combating misinformation.

At the end of each cohort, participants receive a certificate of completion, recognising their efforts in curbing the spread of misinformation in Africa.

Impact So Far

The Volunteer Network has made remarkable strides in addressing the misinformation crisis:

  • 100+ volunteers have been trained and mentored.
  • 25+ fact-checking projects have been completed, exposing false narratives and promoting accurate information.
  • 10+ specialised training sessions have been conducted, equipping participants with cutting-edge tools and strategies.

These achievements underscore the network’s unwavering commitment to fostering a generation of fact-checkers equipped to tackle the challenges of today’s information ecosystem.
