Senator Idiat Adebule Recounts Key Legislative Reforms in First 20 Months in Office

Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, has championed several legislative initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s legal framework in education, justice, and gender equality. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), she outlined her efforts over the past 20 months as a first-term lawmaker.  

In the past year and eight months, she has sponsored the Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education (Amendment) Bill to enhance access to quality education and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to improve asset recovery processes in Nigeria. Additionally, she has proposed amendments to the Sheriff and Civil Process Act to streamline civil litigation procedures and the Child Rights Act to bolster protections for children.  

Sen. Idiat further mentioned that she has carried out a number of legislative work that includes an amendment to the Land Use Act,  designed to modernise land administration laws, and the Gender and Equitable Opportunities Bill, 2024, which aims to promote gender equality and protect women’s rights.
