Summary

President Tinubu has nominated ten women as part of the 32 ambassadorial nominees for Senate confirmation. This announcement was made on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated 10 women as part of the 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. These nominees comprise 17 non-career ambassadors and 15 career ambassadors, reflecting a push for gender equality and increased representation of women in Nigeria’s political system.

Following the first submission of nominees’ names on Tuesday, November 26, 2025, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, officially announced the second batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees on Saturday, November 29, 2025. This brings the total number of nominees to 35.

These nominees were perceived as a conscious effort by the President to end the prolonged diplomatic vacuum following the recall of Nigerian Ambassadors in September 2023. The second list of nominees includes 17 non-career ambassadors and 15 career ambassadors, who will be posted to countries and international organisations critical to Nigeria’s foreign relations.

The nominees are expected to focus on the country’s economic diplomacy, aiming to attract foreign direct investment, boost trade, and secure international partnerships for national development. They will also work to enhance Nigeria’s global reputation, improve relations with the diaspora, and reassert its leadership role in African and global affairs.
