Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has qualified as a chartered accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), drawing commendation from the Federal Government.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced the development in a statement issued on Monday, June 29, congratulating Osasere on what the ministry described as a record-breaking achievement. According to the minister, Osasere became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 16.
“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” Olawande said in the statement.
He described her achievement as evidence of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, adding that it demonstrates the potential of young Nigerians when given the necessary support and opportunities.
“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” the minister added. “Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence.”
Olawande also acknowledged the role of Okundaye’s parents, teachers, mentors, and other supporters, stating that their guidance contributed to her success.
The Ministry of Youth Development said Osasere’s achievement reinforces its commitment to implementing policies and programmes aimed at empowering young Nigerians to realise their full potential.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading professional accounting bodies, with its qualification process requiring candidates to complete a series of rigorous professional examinations.
