Summary

Lagos DSVA hosts 16 traditional rulers to create awareness on gender-based violence.

The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is hosting 16 traditional rulers in a bid to agitate the public against Gender-Based Violence and highlight the harsh reality faced by countless women worldwide. The event, which begins on Nov. 25 and ends on Dec. 10, 2024, is to reawaken and revive commitments against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

This initiative, which was held in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ROLAC) and supported by the European Union, is a response to commemorate the 2024 awareness campaign against Gender-Based Violence. Theme: “Towards Beijing+30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” The engagement will empower members of the community on the issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), provide insights into the harsh reality of countless women who have been victims, and also provide resources for survivors of Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Building on the crucial roles of traditional rulers, DSVA aims for these leaders to encourage their community members to champion the cause against any form of violence and exhibit good behaviours.

The engagement will feature activities such as a town hall meeting and two awareness walks in Epe and Elegushi, Lagos. Residents of Lagos State are strongly advised to participate in this campaign.
