The police officers of the Lagos State Police Command held a 5km walkathon against gender-based violence on Nov. 29, 2025, as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Police Women.
The walk, featuring mainly female police officers, was organised in partnership with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). It brought together officers who raised awareness on the impact of gender-based violence and highlighted the achievements and growing leadership of women in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the contributions of women officers and pledged stronger institutional support. He said gender-based violence remains a serious criminal offence that will be investigated and prosecuted, and urged residents to speak out. He also noted the increasing number of women serving as divisional police officers across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, encouraged the officers to report any form of abuse and stressed that violence can affect anyone regardless of profession or background. She reaffirmed the agency’s partnership with the police in strengthening ethics, accountability and support for survivors within the force.
Both the Lagos State Police Command and the DSVA reiterated their commitment to building safer communities through sustained awareness efforts and survivor-centred support.
