Summary: The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has responded to public concerns after a young woman named Mirabel shared on social media that she was brutally raped in her apartment, assuring that efforts are underway to reach her and provide support.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has acknowledged public concerns over a video circulating on social media in which a young woman named Mirabel tearfully recounted being brutally raped in her apartment by a man after she refused to give him her phone number.
The attack reportedly occurred on the morning of February 15, 2026. According to her account, she had struggled with insomnia and only went to sleep around 6 a.m. At about 9 a.m., she heard a knock on her door. Believing it was her neighbour, she opened the door, only to be pushed back into her apartment. She was brutally raped, and the perpetrator reportedly inserted a face blade into her vagina, causing her to bleed.
In a statement, the agency said,
āWe have seen the reports and are actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention and ascertain her location. Our team has initiated contact through available channels and will continue efforts to establish communication.ā
The agency further appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could help them reach the survivor safely by sending a direct message to any of their official social media channels.
Following this, the DSVA confirmed that they had successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that Mirabel had been discharged from the hospital. They also noted that the incident occurred in Ogun State, placing it outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
In solidarity with the survivor, Naija Feminists Media issued a press release calling for an immediate investigation and prosecution. They urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to ensure that justice is served.
