Summary:

A February 24, 2026, Facebook post by Gistlover claiming that Simi deactivated her account following a daycare controversy and an investigation announcement by National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is false, as her verified X account remains active with no evidence of suspension or deactivation.

Claim

Simi has recently faced online harassment after speaking out against rape and calling for accountability. In a post on X, she condemned sexual violence and urged men to hold other men accountable. Her comments followed the case of Mirabel, a TikTok content creator who reported she was raped in her apartment on February 15 after refusing to give a man her phone number.

Amid the backlash, Simi reaffirmed her position, writing: “It’s not a costume I’m wearing, it’s who I am. I said stop raping women. I stand by it.” Following her statement, some male X users circulated misinformation about her and her family and resurfaced old posts they claimed were inappropriate.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) later announced that it would investigate credible reports concerning alleged child sexual abuse and misconduct at her mother’s daycare centre.

Subsequently, on February 24, 2026, a popular media platform known as Gistlover posted on Facebook, claiming that Nigerian singer Simi had deactivated her social media account following controversy over alleged incidents at a daycare.

The post read: “Popular artist Simi has deactivated her account after National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced that they are ready to investigate disturbing allegations involving a daycare.”

While the attached image reportedly suggested “suspension,” the caption stated that her account was “deactivated.” The claim generated 2.4k comments, 146 reposts, and 8.8k likes. It also attracted misogynistic comments and mockery remarks against Simi such as:

Emenike Ogbu wrote, “Simi is an updated version of Mirabel,” while another user, More Talk, posted, “Ikorodu Beyonce is on the run? The best business that pays is minding your business.”

NFM Checks

A review of Simi’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account shows that it remains active. Her followers and following count are intact, and there is no indication that the account was deactivated or suspended. There is no verified evidence linking this announcement to any deactivation of Simi’s account.

Public Reactions and Expert Opinion

Several social media users questioned the accuracy of the claim. Agbanwu Samson Solomon commented: “Deactivated or suspended? Naija bloggers with different narratives.”

Larry Billionz Otf wrote: “Fake news. all this for engagement nawaooo this is editing nah.”

Zakari Shaibu also stated, “That’s a lie, her account is still active on both Instagram and Twitter.”

Naija Feminists Media also spoke to gender advocate Oluwafumbi Ogunsola, who said it was troubling that Simi was being attacked for condemning rape. She noted that spreading unverified information to silence a woman for speaking out is intimidation, not accountability.

“Circulating unverified information to punish or silence a woman for speaking up is not accountability, it is intimidation, and it needs to stop.”

Conclusion

The claim that Simi deactivated her account following the daycare controversy is false. Her verified social media accounts remain active, and there is no evidence supporting the allegation.
