“Raise Your Children,” Nigerian Teacher Laments Male Students’ Bullying

A 23-year-old  Civic Education teacher at a Nigerian government secondary school has gone viral after a video showed her crying over a distressing classroom incident. The teacher recounted that while teaching her Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1) class, she noticed a male student in the front row moving around and politely asked if he was okay. The student initially responded that he was fine, and she continued with her lesson.

However, the situation escalated when the student refused to sit properly. As the teacher stepped out of the classroom, he reportedly shouted remarks about her appearance, saying, 

“You no even fine sef,” and later added, “You too wowo.”

The young teacher revealed that the comments deeply affected her, reopening past struggles with body image and body shaming. In the video, she urged parents to properly train their children, emphasising that upbringing plays a role in shaping respect and empathy.

She also noted that while she could have reacted harshly, she chose restraint, warning that negative actions have consequences, and highlighted the importance of teaching children to respect educators and others in their communities.
