Retired Rear Admiral, Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, now serves as National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing Nigeria’s North-East. She is a trailblazer in Nigeria’s military history, becoming the first female Commodore in the Nigerian Navy in 2017 and the first woman from Northern Nigeria to attain a General-equivalent rank in the service.

The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, the lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency, over reports of him repeatedly beating his wife.

In a video that circulated widely on social media, Glory Agbor, Ovat’s spouse, was seen with a swollen face, which could suggest the result of domestic violence. The suspension followed a motion moved by Abia Constituency Rep Davies Etta and seconded by Odukpani constituency Rep Francis Bassey Asuquo during plenary on March 5, 2026.

  1. Senate Remove Senator Natasha From UN Women Delegation, Selects Male Senator 

The Nigerian Senate has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the delegation sent to the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, United States. She was replaced by a male senator, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, despite the conference’s focus on women’s rights.

American singer and entrepreneur Beyoncé appears for the first time on the Forbes World Billionaires List, among the world’s wealthiest individuals. Based on real-time estimates, she ranks No. 3,332. 

According to Forbes, the Houston-born star also made the 2026 Forbes World’s Richest Women list with an estimated net worth of $1 billion, marking a milestone in her decades-long career in music and business.
