The ₦15 million defamation lawsuit filed against young SGBV advocate Akande Mary has been dropped. Ojuko David Adefesobi, who filed the suit in February 2026, announced that he has accepted her written apology and chosen to forgive her, citing the seasons of Lent and Ramadan.
In a post shared on his X page on March 12, 2026, he stated, “Over the past few days, I faced one of the most difficult moments of my life following a false accusation of rape that quickly gained public attention. I remained steadfast in my innocence, determined that the truth would prevail.”
He added that Akande Mary had issued the written apology his lawyers demanded, and that after appeals from respected individuals and his parents, he had chosen to forgive.
The lawsuit followed a WhatsApp disagreement in which Akande Mary tagged David a rapist after he reshared a post on his WhatsApp status stating that not all men are rapists in response to the trending Mirabel rape case.
His lawyers demanded a written apology, full retraction, and compliance within 14 days or face court action. Akande Mary released two apology videos, and her family physically travelled to Ile-Ife to beg on her behalf.
