A woman identifying herself as Diamond Princess Mwenke Andrew Obi, who claims to be married to Tony Obi, brother of retired Nigerian footballer John Mikel Obi, has publicly demanded a divorce, accusing the Obi family of long-term abuse in a viral, nearly three minute video.
She noted that she no longer wants to carry the Obi name, describing it as “quite heavy” for her and called Tony Obi an evil person.
“I’ve been seeking a divorce. Yes! I don’t want to marry Tony Obi anymore. I’ve been through hell for the past 18 years, married to this family. The entire Obi family has done evil to me, including John Mikel Obi himself,” she added.
Recounting a recent incident, she said the abuse continued during a condolence visit for the late Chioma Obi, Mikel Obi’s sister, where she and her children were reportedly pushed and publicly humiliated. Diamond Princess described her marriage as fraught with hardship and mistreatment, claiming the Obi family harboured intense animosity toward her.
Calling for accountability, she challenged the Obi family to publicly explain her alleged wrongdoing.
“Enough is enough… I want my name cleared. Everybody should go their separate ways. I need justice. I want justice. This insult is too much. It is really unfair,” she said.
She also issued a warning to other women:
“No matter how much you love a man, if his family doesn’t love you, stay away from that relationship. You’re wasting your hell of a time.”
As of this report, neither Tony Obi nor John Mikel Obi has responded to the reports and claims made by Diamond Princess.
