Two young girls, Ummi and Abida, have been shot dead by bandits for rejecting sexual assault while in captivity. The girls were abducted in Janjala village, Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, and killed after weeks of captivity.

The girls were among the 14 victims abducted in the community. The kidnappers demanded a 14 million ransom, but the families pleaded with them repeatedly to release the girls, stating they could not afford it. Still, they stood their ground. Afterwards, the families were able to raise 13 million, which they took to the kidnappers’ designated location around Hayin Dam forest in neighbouring Kachia Local Government Area of the state, on  Saturday, April 5, 2026. However, the terrorists informed the families that they had killed the two ladies.

According to a source, “the girls refused to allow the bandits to rape them, so their leader ordered them to be shot on the spot.”

NFM has also reported a similar incidence here. These incidents reflect the growing insecurity crisis in Nigeria, especially in the Northern states. These incidents have frequently led to the killings, rape, kidnapping, and displacement of women and girls, ultimately violating their rights to life and freedom.
