Prof Adejoke Oyewunmi has assumed office as the 20th Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, becoming only the third woman to hold the position in the faculty’s history.
Adejoke formally took over the leadership of the faculty on August 1, 2026, succeeding Prof Abiola Sanni (SAN) at the end of his two-year tenure, the university said in a statement made available to The PUNCH.
She joins Prof C. K. Agomo and Prof Ayodele Atsenuwa as the only women to have served as Dean since the faculty was established in 1962.
Adejoke obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University before pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Lagos, where she has spent more than three decades as an academic. She holds a Master of Laws degree in Intellectual Property from the Franklin Pierce Law Centre, University of New Hampshire, and a PhD from Obafemi Awolowo University. Her scholarship centres on Intellectual Property and Labour Law.
Her appointment adds to a growing list of women reclaiming leadership positions that have long been dominated by men.
