Sodiq Kayode Akorede, a 23-year-old man, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command after he was found in possession of the severed head of a six-year-old girl named Mutiyatu Sunday. This tragic incident occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Adigun Village, Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ona-Ara Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspect, Sodiq, unlawfully killed the young girl and decapitated her body. He was caught by residents who turned into an irate mob. They attacked and attempted to lynch him before police arrived. He sustained injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
“Following the arrest, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, one Sodiq Kayode Akorede ‘M’, aged 23, allegedly unlawfully killed a six-year-old girl, later identified as Mutiyatu Sunday ‘F’, and severed her head, which was recovered from him.
“Furthermore, upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. He was thereafter conveyed to a medical facility for necessary treatment following injuries sustained from the mob attack and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation and prosecution,” the statement reads.
In addition, the Commissioner of Police warned against jungle justice, saying it obstructs proper investigation and the course of justice and urged residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
“In light of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police strongly warns against acts of jungle justice, as such unlawful actions impede thorough investigation and ultimately truncate the course of justice,” the statement concluded.
