The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has officially declared her intention to contest for the Ogun West Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. She obtained her nomination and expression of interest forms through a proxy on April 30, 2026, signalling her intention to contest for a seat in the Red Chamber.
Her entry into the senatorial race comes at a critical moment in Ogun politics following the emergence of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate. The development has now shifted attention to who will represent Ogun West in the Senate in 2027. Other contenders said to have obtained nomination forms include Gbolahan Dada, Waliu Taiwo, and Jimoh Ojugbele.
Engineer Noimot, a UK-trained civil and public health engineer with an MSc from Imperial College London, is widely regarded as one of the leading technocrats in Ogun politics. Since assuming office as deputy governor in 2019, she has played a key role in the state’s governance and infrastructure development agenda.
The deputy governor hails from Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area and is said to command strong support within the Awori and Yewa political blocs across Ogun West. Her candidacy could also strengthen women’s representation in governance, as Ogun State has not produced a female senator since Senator Iyabo Obasanjo left the Senate in 2011.
The next Nigerian general elections will take place in 2027, where citizens will vote for their preferred candidates. The Presidential and National Assembly polls are set for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections are to follow on February 6, 2027.
