The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Damilola, a Badagry princess and the party’s Lagos State Deputy Woman Leader, will run alongside the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who is the APC’s governorship candidate.
The deputy governor aspirant, Damilola, is a governance and development professional with more than 15 years of experience spanning public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, human capital strategy, stakeholder engagement and community development.
Her grassroots engagement and community-focused initiatives have earned her recognition among party supporters, many of whom refer to her as the “Sisi Eko of APC.”
Damilola’s selection as running deputy governor was made by the Lagos State APC Chairperson, Hon. Cornelius, who said the decision followed extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the party, Damilola emerged after careful consideration of her competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party and ability to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of Lagos State.
The APC chairperson described the deputy governorship candidate as a dedicated party member who has distinguished herself through her commitment to service, strength of character, innovative thinking, and proven leadership across the public, private, and political sectors.
He also called on Lagosians to support her in the 2027 election, noting that a vote for the APC represents continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and a greater Lagos.
